Korean War
After the end of WW2, Korea was divided into 2. Communist North Korea and Non- Communist South Korea. The two countries were divided at the 38th parallel. This was to ensure a buffer zone between the two super powers. In 1950, the North invaded the south pushing all the way to the tip of the peninsula in a matter of months. The US soon intervenes by landing in Inchon, not too far south of the 38th parallel. With the help of the US, the South pushes back up to the Chinese border. The Chinese then intervene and pushes back down to the 38th parallel. The war was fought along this line where an armistice was signed in '54. The war ended at a stalemate since neither side were gaining any territories. Today, the two countries are still split at the 38th parallel.
