The Invasion
On June 25th, 1950, Sunday morning, South Korea was attacked by North Korea. South Korea was invaded by a force of 90,000 men and 150 T-34 tanks. The South Korean Army only consisted of a of 38,000 men, which is less than half of the North Korean Army. Most of the soldiers were not prepared and many were not on duty at the time.
Captain Joseph Darrigo was the first American to realize there was invasion in South Korea. He over heard the artillery fire while at the ROK 12th Regiment. He went to go investigate in Kaesong. As he entered the city, he saw the North Korean Army unloading tanks from railcars at the rail station.
The South Koreans were outnumbered 5-1, and had absolutely no heavy weapons to stop North Koreans. There were plans that called for blowing up the important bridges after the South Korean army had crossed the river. However, the bridges were blown up while the South Korean's were still crossing. This resulted in over 10,000 South Koreans stranded.

The Battle of Pusan Perimeter was a long and extensive military engagement between the United Nations forces and the communist army of North Korea that lasted from August 4 to September 16, 1950. The battle took place at the Pusan Perimeter and its surrounding area, South Korea, during the Korean War. This battle marked the end of the North Korean invasion of South Korea, which had begun on June 25, 1950. U.S. forces put a defense against the North Koreans from conquering the peninsula. The U.S successfully stopped and defeated the North Koreans from doing so.
Operation Killer
The 8th Army launched Operation Killer. This was designed to attack and capture the Communist troops in the eastern part of the country. It succeeded, only because the Communists were already withdrawing northward. The plan to capture a large number of Communists troops failed.
